पिता वह वृक्ष होते हैं जिसकी डार आप झूलते हैं।
डालें झुक जाती हैं कि कूदते हुये ऊँचाई अधिक न हो भूमि से।
आप समूची सृष्टि को ठेंगा दिखाते झूलते हैं और वे झुकते रहते हैं।
आप उनसे लड़ लेते हैं। क्या खूब लड़ाइयाँ होती हैं कि जिनमें साँझ दर साँझ सुलह होती है
और पिता कहते हैं - जिन पिता-पुत्र में लड़ाइयाँ नहीं होती उनके जीवन व्यर्थ होते हैं।
पीठ पर हल्का सा स्पर्श होता है और सम्वाद पूर्ण हो जाते हैं।
पिता जब वाकई झुक जाते हैं तो प्रारम्भ होता है आप के भीतर की पहली टुटन का।
औषधियों की पोटली से टेबलेट चुगते पिता कहते हैं कि देह कबाड़खाना हो गई!
आप को अपने भीतर कबाड़ का बोध होता है और पहली बार अकेलेपन की आहट भी आती है।
कहा नहीं जाता फिर भी कहने से सुकून मिलता है कि आकाश कभी बूढ़ा नहीं होता:
युसुफ इस्लाम के पिता तो और युवा हैं। उनको सुनना अच्छा लगता है। पिता अब नहीं बहलाते। स्वयं को बहला कर ही देखते हैं:
